Australind Skate Park fundraising committee chairwoman Sabine Heidt was "ecstatic" when a $5000 donation from Lake Preston Lime father and son team Blair and Luke Howe took a $50,000 community contribution target past the half-way mark.

Leschenault resident Luke Howe handed the cheque to Harvey shire community and economic development manager Patrick Quinlivan last week after he and his father, who owns the company where he is the manager, decided to give the proposed skatepark a financial boost.

"We believe it is a great project for Australind and I have four children myself who might want to use the facility," Luke Howe said.

"I discussed it with my dad some months ago and he was happy to make a donation from the company."

Mrs Heidt said the generous and unexpected donation gave the committee a head start for the next financial year as the community contribution was set at $25,000 in 2014/15 and the same amount in the 2015/16 financial years.

"We are confident we can meet our obligation of raising $50,000 by June next year, hopefully earlier," she said.

"It is a long haul but if all goes well we could be starting construction in the middle of next year."
