Queen Mary 2 to visit Busselton

Busselton can expect a visit from famous Cunard ocean liner Queen Mary 2 in February 2017.

The news came with the City of Busselton's announcement this week that the Federal Government had allocated funding to begin construction of a new landing platform on Busselton Jetty.

The City will match the $600,000 provided by the Government for the project, which will see the existing 15m platform extended to 35m.

It will be capable of accommodating cruise ship tender vessels, charter boats and other recreational vessels, with work scheduled for completion by June next year.

Mayor Ian Stubbs said the landing would allow passengers to disembark more efficiently and comfortably.

"Most importantly, it will encourage the continued inclusion of Busselton as a feature stop on the itineraries of various cruise ships, including the likes of the Queen Mary 2," he said.
