Storm wreaks havoc

Kite Court residents were woken just after midnight last Sunday morning to the sound of a trampoline smashing its way through the roof of a house.

Borne by 70km/h winds, the trampoline had been carried almost a kilometre in the air by the storm that swept over the South West.

It landed the roof, smashing dozens of tiles, leaving a skylight in pieces and three holes, through which rain flooded the ceilings.

At the same time, several local fences were also damaged by wind gusts.

As the SES were busy elsewhere, the residents worked inside the roof space to secure spare insulation over the holes and placed buckets, eskies and open suitcases to catch the worst of the water, limiting the damage. The next morning, when a crew became available, SES volunteers arrived to cover the damage with tarpaulins until the insurance company could arrange for expensive repairs.
