Gift gives peace to seniors

Liliana Dyson, one of Quambie Park’s 44 aged care residents who will benefit from the new call bell system, enjoys her garden with carer Peg Matthiesson.

Waroona's Quambie Park residents and their carers will soon be able to enjoy peace of mind with a new emergency call bell system.

Alcoa's work place PEACH ((Personnel Employed at Alcoa Charity Help) program donated $11,500 to replace the existing, outdated call bell system.

Quambie Park chairman Mike Walmsley said the aged care facility was incredibly grateful to the PEACH program and the personnel who contributed to it.

"Emergency situations will be averted because the invaluable call bell system means residents will only have to press a button when they need assistance," he said.

"Staff response times will be measured, monitored and improved upon to ensure the highest level of service possible."

PEACH president Trish Morris said money in the PEACH Trust Fund came from Alcoa employees who contributed or donated from every pay packet.

Originally an initiative of a group of employees at the Alcoa Pinjarra Refinery, the trust fund is now funded and managed by WA Alcoa employees with 100 per cent of the employees' voluntary contributions distributed to a range of causes.

Organisations can apply for sponsorship to purchase equipment if they meet a criteria.

Since its inception in 1979, PEACH has donated more than $3.2 million to more than 200 community organisations.
