Bunbury's sold-out leg of the national Groovin' the Moo festival drew a record 20,000 revellers to Hay Park on Sunday for near-perfect festival conditions and a line-up to be remembered.

Hundreds of ticket holders saved their energy for the event's finale, with Wolfmother and Hilltop Hoods amassing huge audiences to rock out in the mosh pit.

Big crowds gathered at the main stage for Hermitude and UK rock band You Me at Six, while the Moolin Rouge tent was packed with hundreds of San Cisco and The Broods fans.

The all-ages event did, however, have its problems, including more drug charges than at last year's event.

Police operations manager Sgt Matt Leishman said there was a total of 50 charges from the event, including 36 charges for possession of a prohibited drug which was a significant increase from the previous year.

Other charges include trespass, obstructing police and possession of prohibited drugs with intent to supply or sell.

Eight people were arrested and will appear in court at a later date.

Sgt Leishman said the main focus of police was within the event's boundaries, however a number of random breath tests conducted in the vicinity detected no drink-drivers, "which was a great result".

Bunbury police worked with a South West police dog, a drug detection dog and four mounted police horses throughout the day.

GTM was "expected to return" to Bunbury next year, a spokeswoman told the _Bunbury Herald _.
