Path causes SW reserve concern
A Busselton resident has flagged concerns over the construction of a dual-use pathway near the Vasse Wonnerup Wetlands.
Michael Stewart said bushland at the nature reserve had been damaged during construction.
He said five years ago, residents battled with the City to have the area protected from development.
"This latest undertaking has negatively impacted on over half the ground cover and damaged several young trees," he said
"I cannot see the point of the pathway since not many people use the current one that runs through the wetlands.
"It seems like a waste of taxpayers' money that could be used elsewhere." City of Busselton director of engineering and works services Oliver Darby said the dual pathway was one of several new paths around Busselton encouraging people to exercise.
"This work is being undertaken by the City of Busselton - it's the continued construction of the dual use pathway which links the municipality," he said.
"So far the pathway has been constructed up to limestone level between Shannon Place and Bovell Street and the asphalt surface over this section is being laid this week.
"The remaining section of the pathway to the west will be constructed during May and June as per the stipulations of a clearing permit required to complete the project."
