Margaret River's AFL Youth Girls football club has called for new members to play against South West teams during the coming school term.

The reigning league champions will face Bunbury teams in eight weekend games played across May and June.

Coach Tess Oliver said the club needed new recruits to replace the 18-year-olds who moved on each year.

Oliver said rival teams had gained strength and more recruits were needed.

"We have to defend our title," she said.

Oliver said girls aged between 13 and 18 were welcome to join.

"Come down for training, check us out and have a run," she said.

Oliver said the players were confident about the coming season.

"No matter how small they are, some of them are just amazing," she said.

The football team trains on Thursday nights at 5pm and will play its first game on May 3.
