SW Warriors vindicate rout

South West Warriors Te Puna Ranga is tackled hard at the weekend against the Joondalup Giants.

The South West Warriors have recorded the Reserve Grade team's first win for the WA Rugby League 2015 season in defeating the Joondalup Giants at Bunbury Recreation Ground on Saturday.

After a massive round one loss to the Rockingham Sharks, the Warriors responded well in the side's first home game for the season to complete an all-round performance and defeat the Giants 22-18.

The Warriors began well with an early score through winger Isaac Huey after his forwards gained considerable ground early in the tackle count, allowing a set play in good field position to be converted into a try.

Five-eight Henare Davis and half-back Jamal Clarke were exceptional for the home side, taking on the opposition and breaking the lines on numerous occasions to drive the Warriors forward.

The only blight on Davis' game was his inability to make the conversions count, with just one of his five place kicks going over the black dot.

Coach Ru Davis said he was proud of the boys' effort, just a week after a heavy defeat.

"The boys did their job," he said.

"I was pleased with their completion rate and their ability to complete the sets. It was great for them to be so disciplined around the ruck as well."

Davis said the club was still in its rebuild phase so the early win was a great sign for the future.

Unfortunately, the Warriors' sides in the Third Grade and Women's League Tag competitions were not as lucky.

The Third Grade team let a healthy lead slide in the second half to lose 32-22.

And the Women's League Tag side was smashed 40-0 despite a competitive performance.

The Warriors have a week's break for Anzac Day and return on May 2, when they will travel to Webber Reserve to play the Willagee Bears.
