Freshly painted and ready to play, the Travelling Street Piano made its debut at The Creamery on Victoria Street in Bunbury on Friday night.

Six girls aged from 13 and 17 years were chosen to paint the piano as part of the Shift Youth Arts Festival in Bunbury last week before it was revealed.

Anyone is able to play the piano, which also appeared at Market Square in Marlston on Sunday.

Bunbury City Council community and customer services director, Stephanie Addison-Brown, said people were waiting in anticipation for its debut.

"The public reaction has been very good, with people commenting on the impressive artwork created by the young artists who painted it," she said.

"The piano also sounds fantastic, with some very talented musicians playing a wide variety of popular and classical tunes."

While the festival is over, the piano will continue to travel the streets of Bunbury as part of a council project.

Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said the piano was the latest in a number of projects enhancing the vibrancy and diversity of the city centre.

"It will work in partnership with such things as the increase in busking areas, street art and community projects making our city a great place for residents and visitors," he said.
