Some of Australia's renowned classical musicians will take the local stage as the Australian String Quartet performs this year's Margaret River Weekend of Music.

Cellist Peter Wispelwey and pianist Anthony Romaniuk will join viola player Stephen King, cellist Sharon Draper and violinists Zoe Black and Paul Wright for the intimate performances this weekend at Fraser Gallop Estate, Cape Lodge, Voyager Estate and Vasse Felix wineries.

Australian String Quartet executive director Angelina Zucco said the event was a rare opportunity for residents to see the world-class musicians.

"It's pretty special," she said.

"Both Anthony and Peter travelled specifically for these events.

"It really is quite exclusive."

Voyager Estate owner Alexandra Burt said the quartet was "extremely loyal" to Margaret River and held only one other regional Australian concert - in Dunkeld, Victoria.

"For Margaret River to get an internationally-acclaimed quartet for a whole weekend festival is fantastic," she said.

Burt said the numbers able to see the musicians would be "very small", with many visitors from Perth expected to attend.

"This means the engagement with the players is fantastic," she said.

"You can hear them breathing."

Fraser Gallop Estate creative director Dorothy Gallop said she was thrilled to host the quartet in Margaret River for another year.

Augusta-Margaret River Tourism Association chief executive Pip Close said "quite a few" bookings for accommodation were made in the lead-up to the weekend.

"We are delighted to have the Australian String Quartet return to the region once again," she said.

"This event attracts lovers of fine music, wine and food, and assists to position the region as a premium destination."

The string quartet is based in South Australia and will perform at the Venice Biennale after its Margaret River performances.
