Worksafe to probe paver accident
A Bunbury man is in a stable condition in hospital after being thrown from an asphalt paver in Burekup on Monday.
Garnet Lane, who was working for Malatesta Road Paving and Hot Mix, was injured during the workplace accident on Collie River Road about 10.30am.
The paver rolled down a steep hill and crashed on the edge of an irrigation channel.
He was thrown from a height of about 3m into the channel, which contained rainwater.
Mr Lane had surgery at Royal Perth Hospital on Tuesday and is recovering with the support of his family.
A family spokesman said they wanted to thank well-wishers and those who helped to save Mr Lane.
After the accident, Mr Lane's workmates sprang into action and performed first aid before St John Ambulance and firefighters arrived.
He was treated for suspected spinal injuries at the scene and flown to Royal Perth Hospital by the RAC Rescue Helicopter.
Worksafe is investigating the accident.
