Foot painter has skills down to a fine art
With a keen sense of colour and artistic passion, Bunbury artist Rosyln Burns is working towards her first solo exhibition.
Living with a severe disability, Ms Burns has been painting with her left foot since joining the Art Partners program at the Stirling Street Art Centre in 2011.
Ms Burns is doing a series of workshops with South West artists through a Community Living and Participation Grant from National Disability Services WA and her goal is her own solo exhibition at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries.
She has completed four sessions with Bunbury artist Amanda Doust and is painting with Bunbury artist Anastasija Komarnyckyj.
Art Partners program officer Wanda Ariano said Ms Burns enjoyed her time with the artists.
"Roslyn did sessions with Amanda on Koombana Bay and she has done her sessions with Anastasija in the garden and is set to work with South West artists Marina Troitsky and Jenni Doherty," Ms Ariano said.
"The idea is to get exposure to different of ways of working and the idea is that the body of work from the workshops will form the exhibition."
Ms Komarnyckyj said working in the garden exposed Ms Burns to new ideas. They work on different paintings concurrently so one can dry while progressing the other.
"Roslyn has a keen sense of colour and all I do is direct her at various stages but of course we couldn't do it without her support workers," she said.
"She has lots of energy and it's been a rewarding experience - it's the first time I've done anything like this and it's taught me a lot."
