South West Institute of Technology nominees for Student of the Year – Jason Merema, centre, Suganya Balakrishnan, Dini Arisanti, Nathan Sanford, Natalie Borshoff, Steven Glasson and 2015 winner Arlene Abaquin – are all role models.

South West Institute of Technology Harvey campus student Arlene Abaquin has won SWIT's most prestigious annual student award.

The Certificate IV in Education student beat candidates from SWIT's other campuses to claim the overall Student of the Year prize.

The award, considered SWIT's most prestigious, recognises a graduating student who has consistently performed at a high level.

More than 60 other awards recognising learning excellence were presented to students during Friday night's ceremony at Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre.

About 350 students, staff and dignitaries enjoyed the occasion.

Three students from SWIT's Bunbury campus were also nominated for Student of the Year - Nathan Sanford from the business and services category, Suganya Balakrishnan from health and science and Steven Glasson from trades and paraprofessionals.

Four students from SWIT's other campuses were also in the running - Jason Merema, Dini Arisanti, Natalie Borshoff and Chloe Robinson, who could not attend the event.

SWIT managing director Duncan Anderson said he was proud of all nominated students. He praised the nominees as role models for other students.
