The flavours of the South West are set to be showcased at the Fremantle Seafood Festival on Sunday.

WA Abalone Industry Association chief executive Nathan Adams will represent the region at the festival.

The Augusta resident stepped into his new role nine months ago after working as an abalone diver for 16 years.

Mr Adams said he was looking forward to the Fremantle Seafood Festival because it gave him a chance to educate the public about the abalone industry.

"I'll have a stand with a few other abalone divers representing the Abalone Industry Association and we will be doing some cooking and offering some tastings," he said.

"There will also be a talking session where we will be educating the public - it's a good feeling to represent the South West."

Mr Adams said there were three types of abalone in the South West, including roe's abalone, which could be found along the coast from Dunsborough to the South Australian border.

"There is also the greenlip and brownlip abalone which can be found from Busselton Jetty to the South Australian border and there are 14 licences to catch them," he said.

"The quota system means it is a sustainable fishing industry."

Mr Adams said he had enjoyed moving into his role as chief executive because it gave him a chance to meet a range of people.

"I feel like years of being a fisherman has given me a broad knowledge of the industry and I'm enjoying meeting politicians and the public and discussing the abalone industry," he said.

"The Fremantle Seafood Festival is a chance to explain to the public what we do and I'm passionate about the industry."
