Concert for Polly strikes a chord
This weekend could be re-named the 'Weekend for Polly' going by the public response to the South Bunbury Football Club's events, Auction 4 Polly and Concert for Polly, at Hands Oval.
Donations from around the country are flooding in for the two events, which will raise money for shark attack victim Sean Pollard.
Mr Pollard was attacked while surfing at Wylie Bay, near Esperance, on October 2 last year.
The football club will host the auction night on Friday followed by Saturday's concert, headlined by DJ Boston Switch.
Football club president Jeff Hayres said the Australia-wide response to the events had been overwhelming.
"The fact that a community on the other side of the country, who has no obligations, is getting behind Polly is unreal," he said.
Auction items include a stay at a Port Douglas villa for two couples, donated by ex-Essendon and South Bunbury star Leon Baker.
Also up for auction is a VIP package to the Margaret River Pro, which has never been done before and includes getting on a jet ski and being among the surfers.
"The way the South West community has got behind these two events, to help this inspirational young man is incredible," Mr Hayres said.
"Sean and his family are blown away and humbled by the generosity."
Mr Pollard said he hoped people could get down on Friday and Saturday and have a good time.
"Thanks to everyone who has been involved in my ongoing recovery," he said.
