Rocky Horror comes to Busselton

Busselton Fringe Festival on Queen Street organisers Jacquie Happ and Russell Chandler get in costume ahead of the Rocky Horror Picture Show screening on the event's opening night.

Flames, food, song and dance will feature on the opening night of the SunSmart Busselton Fringe Carnevale on Queen Street next month.

The festival will start on March 13 with an evening of entertainment, including Horsehead and Skywomans Basket theatre productions, a screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, stand-up comedy and improvised storytelling sessions.

There will also be productions by the Naked Villainy Theatre and the Big Hoo Haa.

Dangerous Delights will also light up the night with a daring and exciting fire display and the Fringe Art Award will also be held.

Festival director Russell Chandler said there was a lot more exciting content for this year's opening night.

He said the highlights would include a fire circus display, the street level atmosphere, mix of music and food, a pop-up bar, street theatre and displays.

"Rocky Horror is an iconic, cult alternative film that also incorporates music, singing and performance," he said. "It encapsulates the idea of getting out, getting dressed up and participating in film, theatre and art."

The March 13 and 14 program has been designed to be more balanced in its second year, with more input from local community groups, Mr Chandler said.

"We are also aiming to add more decorative features - entry statements, furniture and tables made from pallets and cable drums, more lighting and decorations to create a unique environment that will transport people to a magical place for a while," he said.
