THE faces of Bunbury students lit up when speedway stars and their sprintcars visited schools this week.

QUIT Bunbury Speedway general manager Andrew Roberts and speedway drivers visited eight schools in Bunbury on Monday through to yesterday.

Bunbury racer Daniel Keen was among the speedway drivers when he visited Ocean Forest Lutheran College on Tuesday morning.

Mr Roberts said they visited schools before each Krikke Boys Shootout, which was happening again this weekend at QUIT Bunbury Speedway.

"It's part of our community involvement and we spread safety messages to the kids," he said.

"We talk about wearing seatbelts in the car, wearing helmets when riding a bike and Daniel Keen does the same thing when he races."

Mr Roberts said it was important for them to visit the community and reach as many schools as they could.

"Every school is excited, especially the children who enjoy seeing the sprintcars," he said.

Mr Roberts said it was also a chance for the speedway drivers to reach out to the community.

"Daniel Keen was with us on Tuesday and he's never done it before so it's a baptism of fire but he enjoyed it," he said.

"On Wednesday we had Callum Williamson from Geraldton join us and Callum went on tour with us last year and he put his hand up again, which is great.

"This sport has grown in professionalism in the past five years and you've got to learn to present yourself to the public professionally and that's a skill the drivers have to learn."
