BUNBURY children were treated to a visit by the Royal Australian Navy at two events last week.

Members of the HMAS Stirling, based at Garden Island, visited Koombana Bay Sailing Club on Saturday and the Rotary Club of South Bunbury's Children's Fair at Forrest Park on Sunday.

Chief petty officer Toni Ralph said the visit was designed to show children some of the safety equipment they used.

"It went well at the Koombana Bay Sailing Club on Saturday morning because it was quite personal with groups of three or four children coming and going with their families," she said.

"We went through the safety aspects and a lot of the juniors had used life jackets through the Koombana Bay Sailing Club, which was good.

"The children were pretty impressed by the safety equipment that we brought along including our submarine suit." CPO Ralph said the visit was also designed to build awareness about the role of the Royal Australian Navy.

"Whenever we do demonstrations with children we ask them about what they think the navy does," she said.

"Most of the children knew, which was great.

"We had a bigger group at the Children's Fair and we went through similar demonstrations."
