With a new year comes new leadership at the Rockingham Rams Football Club.

With Steven Boyd stepping down as president and Craig Otto moving away from coaching the league side, former player Perry New has taken on the role as president and Peter Chidlow has put on the league coach's hat.

With the league side finishing second last on the Peel Football League ladder last year, Chidlow said he hoped to help the boys put a few more points on the board and, more importantly, have fun.

"You have got to fun, otherwise it becomes a chore," he said.

"We are community football at the end of the day - we want people to enjoy football, enjoy it socially, and hopefully some sort of success will come from that." Chidlow said he was encouraged by the player group who helped bring the committee, coaches and players together for the season ahead.

He said the league team would have a mix of experience, with 10 senior players returning to the club, and exuberance with young colts coming into the side, making for a well-rounded team.

"We've also recruited some players who will add strength to the player group," he said.

Damien Mollison has also returned to the club after a year off and is set to have his hands full, juggling two roles as reserves coach and captain.

"The boys didn't win a game here in the reserves last year so I'm definitely going to try and change that - hopefully in round one," he said. Meanwhile, colts coach Lee Humphreys is still smiling after last year's grand final victory and said he was excited for the challenges ahead.

"We are going to have a reasonably young colts team this year which might take a little while to gel but I think we'll surprise a few people and go alright," he said.

President New said he hoped he could remind the community how much the 60-year-old club had to offer and inspire new memberships.

"We want to fill the place up again," he said.

"It is about coming back to try and make a difference - to try and make the club what it used to be.

"On the field and off the field, this used to be a very prestigious club."

The club is extending an open invitation to anyone who would like to be part of the club to go to training on Tuesday or Thursday at Anniversary Park from 5.30pm.
