Native title settlement due
Native title claims by Boojarah people in Busselton could be settled tomorrow, after more than five years negotiating the settlement.
The State Government's multi-million-dollar settlement package has caused a lot of controversy since it was announced in 2012 by Premier Colin Barnett.
South West Land and Sea Council chief executive Glen Kelly said it was unclear what the outcome would be.
"We don't know what the result will be, but we are happy to give people the choice," he said.
"In the history of Aboriginal affairs there has never been a choice, so we are glad that people can exercise their free will and choose what they want."
Under the package, $600 million would be paid into the Noongar Boodaj Trust in instalments over 12 years, $120 million would go towards Noongar administration and programs over 12 years and up to 320,000ha from the Crown estate would be transferred to the trust in multiple parcels.
The Harris family native title claim in Busselton was voted through last Saturday.
The South West Boojarah native title claim will be decided from 10am tomorrow at Georgina Molloy Anglican School.
