Rockingham riders unite for toy run

Rockingham Low Cost Food Centre co-ordinator Bev Blake, right, hopes the first annual Rockingham Toy Run will help boost the not-for-profit organisation.

Hundreds of bikers will take to the streets next month as two Rockingham clubs join forces for the inaugural Rockingham Toy Run.

Lost Souls SMC president Cody "Stickers" Main said the club wanted to give something back to the community and decided to unite with fellow bike enthusiasts and friends from The Brothers SRC for the charity ride on November 22.

Mr Main said the clubs wanted to raise money for the Rockingham Low Cost Food Centre through raffles and donations and collect toys to donate to the Make-A-Wish Australia Mandurah Rockingham Branch.

He said the ride from Secret Harbour to central Rockingham would conclude with a foreshore get-together, featuring a live performance from Sound Caste and activities for children.

"Both clubs regularly attend charity rides and have organised their own separate charity events in the past - we have decided to join forces to help out children and families in need at Christmas time," Mr Main said.

"A heap of local businesses have already committed to donating prizes for raffles drawn on the day and for the food that will be cooked up and sold before the ride leaves from the Secret Harbour Surf Life- saving Club."

Rockingham Low Cost Food Centre co-ordinator Bev Blake said she was overwhelmed by the bikers' generosity.

She said centre running costs were upwards of $500 a week and every donation helped.
