Houses free to a good home

Leander Hooper is giving away two houses on his Carey Park property.

It has been a life-long dream for Leander Hooper to own his own business and set up a solid foundation before starting a family.

In February he began the project of building six rental units in Carey Park.

In the process, he saw an opportunity to help other people achieve their dreams by giving away the two houses on the land to anyone who can come to pick them up.

“We’d be demolishing them anyway so I decided to give them away for free, ” Mr Hooper said.

“Everything is worth something.”

Mr Hooper, who grew up in Narrogin and moved to Bunbury in 1989, said he wanted to give people the chance to own a home who may not otherwise be able to afford it.

“Times are tough — it’s pretty hard to support a family these days and the dollar doesn’t stretch very far, ” he said.

Mr Hooper has lived in one of the houses for more than 24 years and said he would like to see it become a home for someone else.

“I’d rather see someone take it away and live in it than just end up as land-fill.”
