'Most photographed' house collapses

The Cowaramup farmhouse has reached the end of its days, with the old building finally collapsing last week.

The building collapsed under its own weight this week.

The house, which was built in the 1920s, was home to the Earl family from 1952 to 1968, according to Neil Earl.

Mr Earl grew up in the house and said they were some of the best years of his life.

“My parents brought five kids up in that house, ” he said.

“The family grew up there.”

When the Earl family eventually moved, they used the old house as a shearing shed.

Mr Earl recalled the days when the family walked their cattle along Bussell Highway to reach the shed at shearing time.

He said that stopped in the early 1980s and the house just “quietly sat there” and eventually went into disrepair.

The land that the house sits on is no longer owned locally but the remnants of the house are expected to be broken up and cleared away.

The house was said to be one of the most photographed in the region.
