Survey finished, landowners thanked

To mark the completion of the 3D seismic survey in the Harvey and Waroona shires the WA Department of Mines and Petroleum thanked landowners and contractors at a wind-up barbecue on April 3.

The six-week survey involved many landholders and contractors.

About 90 people enjoyed the barbecue at the Uduc Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, cooked by the fire brigade volunteers.

DMP coordinator of carbon strategy, Dominique Van Gent, thanked landowners for access to their properties and contractors for their work.

“We appreciate the involvement of landowners and the respect displayed by our contractors which have been key aspects of the smooth operation of this survey, ” Mr Van Gent said.

Heralded as the most complex survey in Australia, a team of more than 80 people conducted environmental mapping and installed more than 300 gates on properties for ease of movement within the survey area of about 115 sq km.

Queensland-based exploration company Geokinetics brought five vibroseis trucks to WA for the survey and used 7000 recorders to collect data about the stratigraphic layers beneath the surface.

Data collected during the survey will be processed and interpreted by scientists and the results will be made available to the community within six months.

A 3D model of the underground will be created with a view to determining the feasibility of carbon capture and storage in the area.
