Volunteers needed to spread Wings For Life

Organisers of a world-first event in Busselton are calling for volunteers.

The Wings For Life World Run will be staged simultaneously in 35 countries on May 4 to raise funds for spinal cord injury research.

The runners will start at the same time around the world — 6pm in Busselton — and aim to be the last competitor standing before a “catcher car” overtakes them.

Busselton business owner Glenn Connell said he could not go past the opportunity to sign up as a volunteer.

“Of all the events to come to Busselton, this is the one that’s going to put Busselton on the world stage, ” he said.

“Considering all the other countries involved in the world and that this event shows Busselton as its South East Asian city, it’s significant for the town and the region.”

More than 200 volunteers are required to help with registrations, directing runners or providing drinks to high-profile athletes like Ironman Matt Poole or Olympic snowboarder Alex Pullin.
