Exhibition excitement for snapper
Bunbury photographer Sam Everitt travelled to Perth at the weekend to display his work at the prestigious As We Are Art Award and Exhibition.
As We Are is a Western Australian community initiative which aims to bring joy and wellbeing to the lives of artists who have an intellectual disability.
Now in its 11th year, the award is a Statewide exhibition showcasing the artwork of more than 100 WA artists.
Mr Everitt has been practising photography for eight years and can not wait to see his work on display in Perth for the first time.
“I bought my first camera in 2005 and my favourite things to photograph are flowers and clouds,” he said.
Mr Everitt is part of the Art Partners mentorship program which matches people with a disability with mentors.
He attended the Chelsea Flower Show in England last year and after showing some of his photos to professional photographers Steph and Steve Lloyd-Smith was advised to take a look at the wild flowers at Crooked Brook Forest.
It was there Mr Everitt photographed Kangaroo Paw, one of two prints he will enter into the award.
Mr Everitt has previously sold prints of three of his photographs to Enable Southwest and is hoping to develop a new market for his work in Perth.
The As We Are Art Award and Exhibition opened in the Central Park Building Foyer on St Georges Terrace on Saturday and runs until November 22.
