Butcher tastes success with gourmet sausage

Lamb, honey and mint sausages from Kev’s Country Meats in Harvey took out third place at the Australian Meat Industry Council’s Sausage King Competition and owner/manager Candis Gordon is thrilled with the result.

The family business on Uduc Road was established by her father Kevin Gordon in 1999 and prides itself in excellent customer service and cuts made to order.

Mrs Gordon won the heat in Bunbury to go on to the finals held at the 2013 Perth Royal Show.

It was not the first time the Harvey product was noted by judges.

The lamb sausage was a finalist in the WA Sausage King Competition in 2008 and a pork sausage made it to the National Sausage King Competition in 2003.

Mrs Gordon said hundreds of butchers from WA entered their gourmet products.

“Gourmet sausages have become so popular, they dominate the market and our lamb, honey and mint sausages are very popular with customers,” she said.

“Every time we experiment with a new recipe, we cook some sausages up and offer a taste to customers to get their opinion.

“The score sheets from the judges with their professional feedback are very valuable because it gives us ideas where we can improve our products.”
