Navy medal for Rockingham man
Petty Officer Stuart Andrews is presented with the Operational Service Medal by the Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Ray Griggs.

It is not every day that a Rockingham resident is among the first to receive a national award.

But Petty Officer Stuart Andrews was one of 15 recipients of the Operational Service Medal, presented by the Chief of Navy, Vice-Admiral Ray Griggs, at a ceremony at HMAS Stirling.

Being deployed on operations in northern Australia and the Middle East was all part of the adventure for the marine technician who joined the Navy in 1997. “It’s nice to be awarded a medal but it doesn’t make me feel any different,” PO Andrews said.

As a marine technician, PO Andrews is responsible for operating, maintaining and repairing ship machinery, gas turbines, diesels, ventilation, power generation and distribution and electrical control systems.

Keeping it in the family, his daughter, Elizabeth, has also joined the Navy.
