Kitten thrown from car
The RSPCA is calling for witnesses after a four-week-old kitten was thrown from a hatch back type vehicle on Heppingstone Road in Brunswick on Saturday.
The kitten suffered a broken hind leg and a fractured front leg.
The kitten also suffered injuries to another leg and injuries to its jaw.
Brunswick Veterinary staff treated the kitten and named the short-haired tabby kitten “Aussie” due to the incident happening on Australia Day and a tribute to the kitten’s ability to battle its injuries.
``This is a despicable act of cruelty,’’ RSPCA Chief Executive David van Ooran said.
``If caught, offenders can face up to $50,000 worth of fines and five years’ imprisonment under the Animal Welfare Act 2002.
``RSPCA urges anyone with any information to please call the RSPCA.’’
Staff at the Brunswick Veterinary Clinic are covering the costs of treating Aussie and is interested in hearing from anyone who would like to adopt Aussie once he has made a full recovery.
This is the second case of animal cruelty in the region in less than three weeks.
A cat was shot with an arrow in suburban Eaton in early January this year.
