Competitors angle for prizes
Joe Baggetta

Last year’s inaugural Harvey District Water Sports Association’s Open Beach Fishing Competition attracted more than 200 hobby anglers of all ages.

Many of them will return this weekend as the family-friendly event was hailed a success and prizes worth a total of $5000 are up for grabs thanks to generous sponsorship from local businesses.

Competitors will again head to the beach between the Bunbury Cut and Preston Beach.

They will demonstrate their skills and hope for some luck to land the heaviest herring, yellow fin whiting, poddy whiting, tailer, mulloway, flat head or shark in separate categories for adults and juniors under the age of 16 years.

Countdown starts on Friday, January 11 at 6pm until Saturday, January 12 at 12.30pm.

This will be followed by the weigh-in and the presentation in the Binningup clubrooms at 6.30pm on Saturday.

Registration is now open at the Binningup General Store, R.G. Upton and Co. in Harvey or the Harvey District Water Sports Association clubrooms at Binningup Beach car park on Thursday and Friday night before 5pm.

Registrations fees are $10 for adults, $5 for juniors or $25 for families.
