Vintage store fills nostalgic niche
Yvonne Williams

Adding colour and diversity to the retail scene, an avid collector has moved her Balingup-based vintage clothing store to Bunbury.

Milly Merseys opened in Arthur Street two weeks ago – and it was a move owner Yvonne Williams had contemplated for some time.

“I would come to Bunbury and think that it could do with something different because we needed something unique,’’ she said.

“I moved Milly Merseys here because a lot more people in town are interested in the sort of things I sell.’’

Milly Merseys has mint vintage clothing from about the 1950s to 1970s, vintage children’s clothing from the ‘60s and ‘70s and retro and modern gifts and collectables.

“It’s hard to classify what type of store this is, there’s a bit of everything,’’ Ms Williams said.

While the store had something for people of all ages, Ms Williams said vintage clothing was particularly popular with style-conscious young adults.

“Vintage is really quite the rage and young people are quite switched on,’’ she said.

In the two weeks the store has been open, Ms Williams said people had been buying things that reminded them of their childhood.

“So many people have already said to me they remembered growing up with ‘this toy’ or had pants ‘just like that’,’’ she said.
