FM radio personalities Heidi Anderson and Tom Bell kick start the Love Yourself Revolution at Bunbury’s Back Beach on Thursday morning.
From 6.45am the Hot FM breakfast duo are encouraging anyone who has ever suffered negative thoughts in regard to their body to strip down to their bathers at the Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club and let their body image issues “go swim”.
Inspired by a photograph she saw online, Heidi recently revealed in a YouTube video (link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiaR3skzqdg) and on air her long time struggle with the negative way she perceived her body.
“Since speaking out about this issue and sharing my own personal struggle the response has been overwhelming,” Heidi said.
“People have felt empowered to share their own stories and we’ve had literally hundreds of calls from listeners.”
“For a long time I hid my insecurities behind a very outgoing personality and only my very close friends knew about my body image issues.
“Since putting them out in the open I feel like a massive weight has been lifted and this event really just provides that same opportunity for others.”
The Love Yourself revolution has caught the attention of a host of Australian identities including journalist Mia Freedman, fashion designer Alex Perry, DJ Ruby Rose, Premier Colin Barnett and Bunbury Mayor David Smith who have all offered their support.
Heidi and Tom are aiming to get 100 people to the Surf Life Saving Club on Thursday morning where the group swim will be followed by a live beach side broadcast of the Hot FM breakfast show.
