Record falls on night of drama

In form hard-charger Ryan Farrell broke the track record at the QUIT Bunbury Speedway on Saturday night but could not complete the triumph in round two of the Battery All Types Southern Thunder Sprintcar Series.

It was a history-making night as Farrell broke the previous 2004 benchmark of 12.95sec set by Max Dumesny.

Farrell’s first lap stopped the clocks at 12.93sec and he later bettered it again with a blistering 12.89sec effort.

Farrell began the 30-lap feature from pole after a dominant start to the night and looked hard to beat, but with nine laps to go disaster struck when a rock crunched through the car’s firewall leaving the throttle wide open and Farrell grappling for control.

“By the time I had it sorted Dave (Priolo) was too far ahead, so second is better than crashing, I’ll take it,” Farrell said. Priolo was a deserved winner and raced hard toward the finish with Cameron Gessner third.

“I’ve been telling the boys to stick at it because our luck will change and tonight it did finally,” Priolo said.

Earlier, Mark Wells, Shaun Bradford, Gessner and Ben Ellement claimed heat wins while Farrell took out the A Dash with Priolo second and Wells third.
