Harvey Senior High School Year 11 student Jonathon Abaquin has been selected to take part in the Murdoch University Science and Engineering Summer School in January next year.
This course is only open to 80 WA students and Jonathon has excelled in achieving such a prestigious opportunity.
His school results in science and maths were a factor in his selection, as well as recommendations from his teachers.
The summer school gives students an opportunity to live in a university environment and experience life as a uni student.
Jonathon will meet some of Australia’s leading researchers and explore challenging career paths in science and engineering.
Field trips, industry visits and laboratory sessions will put students through challenging sessions in biology, biotechnology, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, mathematics, mineral science, renewable energy and sports science.
The event will include social and recreational activities.
“Jonathon showed a lot of potential with strong achievements in maths and science,” Harvey SHS principal Lyn Caudle said.
“Summer School will give him opportunities to find out more about his career options.”
