Snoring driver alerts police

An unconscious woman’s snores alleviated police concerns she had died when her car caught fire after it rolled on November 24.

Sen. Const. Lance Beynon said he was about to check the 41-year-old Eaton woman’s pulsewhen she started snoring.

“When we got over to the car we were thinking that she’d died,’’ he said.

A fire started in the engine bay of the Mitsubishi Lancer and police pulled her from the car.

She was taken to hospital with cracked ribs.

Police will allege they spotted the car as it squealed its tyres turning onto Raymond Road just after 5am.

“We put our lights on and she failed to stop,’’ Sen. Const. Beynon said.

“She was all over the road, so once we got her registration, we turned off our lights and backed off.’’

Sen. Const. Beynon said there was a cloud of dust and they saw the car had rolled.

“Blood taken at the hospital shows alcohol was a factor,’’ he said.

Sen. Const. Beynon said the driver would be charged with failure to stop, reckless driving and appropriate drink-driving charges.
