A man received serious head injuries in an attack in Mandurah overnight.

Police are investigating the incident that occurred near the Old Mandurah Bridge on Pinjarra Road.

About 11pm a 32-year-old man was attacked after he left a nearby tavern.

It is believed the victim was hit in the head with some kind of pole or stake.

He was taken to the Peel Health Campus for treatment.
