Leavers warned of Facebook refund scams
WA Police have advised Leavers to be aware of fake Facebook pages asking for bank details to receive refunds for leaver wristbands.
Media liaison officer Samuel Dinnison said police had been advised there may be one or more fake Facebook pages that are advising Leavers that they can receive a refund or part refund for their Leavers 2012 wristband if they provide their personal details.
Police advised these were not legitimate offers and Leavers should avoid providing such information which could then be used to steal money from their accounts.
No refunds have been offered as events and support services were extended beyond the original planned dates at both Dunsborough and Rottnest.
Anyone who has provided such information should immediately advise their financial institution of the possible compromising of their account information.
