Greeks give thanks for firefighters

Special Greek Orthodox Church service was held at Prevelly’s St John the Theologian on Saturday.

Orthodox priests travelled from Perth and Bunbury to hold the commemorative service, thanking firefighters for saving the Capes icon from last November’s bushfires.

Church custodian Theo Mathews said crews from as far afield as Narrogin attended the festivities, which also drew the attention of a film crew in the region for the Gourmet Escape.

It gave top WA chef Matt Stone the chance to discuss Greek desserts with firsthand experts including architect Mr Mathews who, with fire control officer Gordon Tenby, co-ordinated the event.
