Teacher s Ironman bid
Teacher's Ironman bid

New Busselton resident Jenni Tibbits says the chance to participate in her first Ironman event was all part of the allure of moving to the seaside city.

The former Perth teacher moved south with her partner James McRae a year ago to take a job at Georgiana Molloy Anglican School and said she was excited to finally compete in Ironman WA next month.

“It’s always been something I wanted to do but I never got around to doing it. I got given an opportunity down here and we were like, the Ironman is here, it’s a great place to live, so it all worked out,” she said.

Tibbits said she had been doing triathlons since she was 13 and had completed marathons, half-ironmans and even the Rottnest swim, but not the full Ironman.

She will be competing in the race alongside McRae, who has participated in one ironman before, and said she hadn’t trained as much as she should have but was looking forward to the challenge.

“I can’t wait. It’s really going to be so exciting. I don’t think I’ll gun it in … I’m confident I’ll finish but not in a world record time,” Tibbits said.
