Information day to showcase Koombana development

This artist’s impression from LandCorp offers just a taste of what is proposed for the Bunbury Waterfront Development precinct of Koombana North.

Bunbury MLA John Castrilli said the image was the first in a series, yet to be released, which depicted the revitalisation of the ski beach and foreshore.

The images show a landscaped community area, complete with barbecue and picnic facilities on the northern side of Koombana North and views across Koombana Bay.

All five images as well as maps and documents will go on show at an information day hosted on-site by LandCorp this Saturday, November 24 from 9am to 3pm.

“All three proposals are currently being advertised for public comment by the City of Bunbury and I would encourage people to come to the information day so they can get a first-hand understanding of what is proposed,” Mr Castrilli said.

“LandCorp’s project team will be available any time from 9am to 3pm to discuss the project and address any questions from the public.”

LandCorp’s plans for Koombana North include five mixed-use buildings ranging in height from four to six storeys, with commercial and retail services on the ground floors and residential apartments on the upper levels to accommodate future population growth.

Mr Castrilli, who is chairman of the Bunbury Waterfront Taskforce, said it was exciting to be moving ahead with plans for the waterfront area.

“Koombana North is the first step in the overall vision for the Bunbury Waterfront. This will be a quality project that helps turn our foreshore into a world-class destination of which we – and future generations – can be proud,” he said.

The project’s design encourages pedestrian and cyclist access and includes provision for a potential future railway platform, which in the interim has been proposed for public parking.

A marquee will be installed on-site for the event – next to the Holman Street car park and Mantra Hotel – and the Lions Club of Bunbury-Leschenault has arranged a sausage sizzle fundraiser as part of the day’s activities.
