Samaritan robbed at crash
A good Samaritan was shocked to discover money had been stolen from her purse while she was tending to a hysterical, bleeding toddler at a car crash on Tuesday.
Tanya Soulos said she jumped from her car, calling the police when she came across a two-car crash on the Australind Bypass on Tuesday afternoon, leaving her car unattended.
"My keys were in the ignition, my purse was on the seat and this person stole about $100 cash,'' she said.
"My focus was the little boy in the back seat of the silver car, he had a cut on his forehead and there was blood all over him and the seat.''
Sgt Craig Clarke said the theft from Mrs Soulos' car was an example of a pathetic human being.
Mrs Soulos said she had never come across something as intense as the crash.
"The women in the cars were screaming for their children and the children were crying for their mums,'' she said.
"The whole time the paramedic was attending to the boy the little guy was crying for his mum, it was really distressing to see.''
Two women in their 30s and two toddlers - a two-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl - are in a stable condition following the crash about 1.50pm.
Both women had to be cut from their cars and the 35-year-old in the silver Ssangyong was flown to Royal Perth Hospital.
"She was conscious when I got to her car, but someone was already caring for her so I focused on her son,'' Mrs Soulos said.
Mrs Soulos said there was no airbag in the car, or it had not deployed, and the woman said she had chest pains.
Sgt Clarke said the children and the 39-year-old woman driving the blue Ford Laser were taken to Bunbury Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
"The paramedic said they shouldn't suffer any long-term injuries from the crash,'' he said.
"The baby seats almost certainly saved the children's lives.''
The crash occurred at the intersection of Paris Road and Australind Bypass, with the bypass's northbound lanes and Paris Road - at the intersection with Leisure Drive - closed until 4.30pm.
Police, emergency services and the RAC helicopter attended the scene and police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
