Young artist inspired by learning
Alysha van den Berg took out first prize in the statewide I Love Learning competition with her painting, inset.

A colourful painting by Brunswick Primary School student Alysha van den Berg will be included in a calendar to raise funds for the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.

The talented student won first prize in the Year 3/4 category of the statewide competition for the I Love Learning calendar.

Art teacher Amanda Rea said Alysha, who attends an art extension program, produced a "magic" painting.

When Alysha found out last week she was one of three first prize winners from more than 2000 entries, she jumped up and down with excitement.

“We had to show what we love to learn and I love art and learning about weather,” Alysha said.

“I did not think I would have a chance to win when I completed the painting in just one day, but my mum really liked it.”

The school will receive an iPad as part of the prize and Alysha will be presented with a certificate.

The calendar is available from the ACER Bookshop in Perth or
