Oldies still Rocking the sporting world
A veteran Rockingham rugby team called the Rocking Chairs are off to Japan for the Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival this month.
The festival will be held in Fukuoka and will be the first time Japan has hosted a Golden Oldies Festival in any sport.
In the wake of the massive earthquake and tsunami, Japan is still on the path to recovery.
Even though Fukuoka is 1000km away from the stricken area, a lot of events and business activities were cancelled.
The organising committee believe the festival will celebrate people striving for a new life after the quake.
The Rocking Chairs are proud to be associated with an event that can play a part in the recovery of Japan.
The side were helped on their way to Japan by some great supporters.
Fukuoka is also known as the sporting capital of Japan.
Most notably, it has a long history of rugby with many school and industrial teams being established in the region.
The city has produced more Japanese international rugby representatives than any other city.
Fukuoka is also home to two professional rugby clubs playing in the top domestic competition.
The Rocking Chairs played at the last Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival in Sydney two years ago where they met a Japanese team, Maebashi Danbo.
The side is hoping to renew the camaraderie with their Japanese counterparts on their home soil.
