Expect delays as lights go in

Part of Estuary Drive, between Koombana Drive and the Port Access Road, will be closed for roadworks for a month from today and motorists have been urged to seek other routes.

Main Roads South West regional manager Brett Belstead said the closure would speed up the project to put traffic lights at the intersection of Koombana and Estuary drives and keep road workers and motorists safe.

‘‘We understand road users will be inconvenienced, but the best time to close the road is in the school holidays,’’ Mr Belstead said.

‘‘We ask that people seek alternative routes that preferably lead to the Australind Bypass, including Paris Road, Grand Entrance, Eaton Drive and Willinge Drive.

‘‘We will have signage out on site advising motorists of how to get to their destination.

Main Roads has asked that, whenever possible, Australind residents avoid using Old Coast Road between Estuary Drive and the Australind Bypass to help reduce queue lengths at the traffic signals.

‘‘Access to businesses on Estuary Drive between Willinge Drive and Old Coast Road will remain open as this section of Estuary Drive will not be closed as part of the works, so please follow the signage,’’ Mr Belstead said.

‘‘These businesses include a nursery, landscaping supplies and dry cleaners.’’

The closure is part of two projects on key Bunbury roads from September through to December.

Projects to introduce t he Koombana and Estuary drives intersection and the Australind Bypass and Vittoria Road intersection have started. Mr Belstead said road users should expect some traffic delays and allow more time for journeys.

Although Estuary Drive will be closed between Koombana Drive and the Port Access Road Estuary Drive, lanes will be open on Australind Bypass and Vittoria Road.
