Missing Augusta guns trigger alarm

Augusta Police are encouraging anyone with licensed firearms to double-check their security after four rifles were stolen from a Scott River property last week.

Sergeant Matt Leishman said burglars took a .22 single shot rifle, a .22 hornet bolt action repeater, a .177 air rifle and a .22 magnum bolt action repeater from the property between August 30 and September 4.

“A small quantity of ammunition was also stolen,” Sgt Leishman said.

“Offenders have also stolen a chainsaw and generator, both in relatively new condition.”

The guns and ammunition were stored in a secure cabinet.

“Contact police if you noticed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Scott River Road and Brockman highway over the past five days,” Sgt Leishman said.

“We are interested in any descriptions of persons or vehicles observed in this area or seen in the area over the period of time.”

Residents were also encouraged to keep an ear to the ground about anyone who recently acquired any such items in the past fortnight.
