Kwinana Marketplace to open in November
Kwinana deputy mayor Ruth Alexander and Mayor Carol Adams view plans for the Kwinana Marketplace.

Early November has been confirmed as the expected completion date of the $100 million refurbishment of The Hub Shopping Centre.

Town of Kwinana councillors were offered a sneak peek inside the construction site on Wednesday.

The new shopping centre will be known as Kwinana Marketplace.

Senior development manager Nigel Smith led a tour around the development site and outlined the current stage of the process and the benchmarks set before the expected opening.

‘‘The site is currently at its most exposed and is being totally rebuilt, ’’ he said.

‘‘We’re currently at 45 per cent vacancy, which is quite normal. We’re confident that we’ll get the space filled.

‘‘We’ve done five shopping centre across the country and we’re confident this one is as good as any of them.’’

Mr Smith believed customers would enjoy a new type of shopping experience in Kwinana.

‘‘We’re really pleased with the level of interest and we’re confident we can provide a fashion offering and new tenants to Kwinana,’’ he said. ‘‘The interest from possible new tenants has been positive. They’re saying ‘we want to be there and we know Kwinana is changing’.’’

Announcements are expected to be made in the coming weeks with another major department store or grocery store expected to come to the centre.

Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said the council had undertaken to write to Bankwest about its failure to return to the centre when it reopens.
