Police are hunting a man who used a shotgun to hijack a car in Busselton last night.

The 54-year-old victim offered a man a lift at the Broadwater shops about 8.30pm.

After a time the man produced a shotgun and demanded the victim get out of the car.

The armed man then drove off along Caves Road in the victim's blue Toyota sedan, leaving the man on the side of the road.

Patrolling police spotted the car and pursued it, but lost the man when he dumped the vehicle on Cookworthy Street in Vasse and fled through bush.

The offender is described as about 180cm tall with a slim build, believed to be in his late teens or early 20s. He was wearing jeans and a hoodie.
