A severe weather warning has been issued for people in the South West.

The warning includes parts of the State south-east of a line from Walpole to Salmon Gums to Israelite Bay, including people in or near Albany and Esperance.

A deep low pressure system south of Esperance is likely to cause widespread damaging winds to 100km/h.

In isolated areas dangerous gusts in excess of 125km/h could cause significant damage or destruction to homes and property.

Damaging winds are likely to develop over areas west of Ravensthorpe after 2am tomorrow and extend throughout by 5am.

These conditions should continue through to Wednesday evening. Thunderstorms and small hail are also possible.

Perth is also bracing for afternoon thunderstorms as a cold front moves in.

Winds are going to increase into the afternoon, and it’s going to get squally,” weather bureau forecaster Tom Delamotte said.

The Bureau of Meteorology has a gale warning in place, and wind gusts are expected to reach up to 85km/h, he said.

“The shower activity will increase this evening and there is a risk of a thunderstorm,” he said.

But rainfall is not expected to be as heavy as the fronts that soaked Perth a week ago.

The bureau predicts rain will continue tomorrow, with possible showers on Thursday and Friday, before clearing up for the weekend.
