Getting youth in the Zone
Getting youth in the Zone

High school-aged children are being invited to join a local youth group offering free entertainment at the Zone Room on Friday nights.

Co-ordinated by Margaret River’s Shelly Mathey, SALT officially kicked off in November and will make a return tonight for teenagers looking for a social outlet.

Ms Mathey said she started the group after noticing how little there was for young people to do since moving to the area about two years ago.

“We open from 6.30pm and run till around 10pm at night and have a kiosk open, a complimentary sausage sizzle and some loud music blaring in the background,” she said.

“For our winter version of the program we have purchased a little outdoor brazier fireplace and we have also got a projector up and running to play a few movies over the course of the night.”

Other activities on offer include pool and foosball challenges.

Ms Mathey said the group intended to offer more events in the near future, but would gauge their viability by the Friday night turnouts.
