New bypass lights to cost $3million
Traffic lights will be installed at the intersection of the Australind Bypass and Vittoria Road after an announcement by the State Government earlier today.
The $3million project was announced by Transport Minister Troy Buswell who said the signals would be installed on the southbound lanes of the Australind Bypass, with an acceleration lane to also be built.
“This intersection, just one kilometre east of the major Eelup roundabout, has about 40,000 vehicles pass through it each day,” Mr Buswell said.
“These works will complement the recently-completed works to signalise the Eelup roundabout and is part of an overall strategy to improve road safety on this popular stretch of road.
Mr Buswell said congestion at the intersection would be alleviated.
“Particularly during peak times, such as before and after school, as Vittoria Road provides access to a number of schools in the area,’’ he said.
“It will also help local residents turn safely from Vittoria Road on to the Australind Bypass.”
The Minister also welcomed the City of Bunbury’s recent agreement to Main Roads undertaking signalisation of the existing intersection of Koombana and Estuary drives, directly adjacent to the Eelup roundabout.
“Signalisation at this site will complement the overall management of inter-regional traffic, peak commuter flow between Australind and Bunbury and movements of freight and vehicles to and from the Inner Harbour,” he said.
